Tell your grannie to knit you these!

Yarn substitutes
Since gauge is not terribly important, you could substitute any smooth yarn in your stash.

Gauge
24 sts and 32 rows = 4" / 10cm in stockinette stitch

PATTERN
Tekka Maki (Tuna Roll)
With pink yarn, CO 10 sts. Work in stockinette for 1 inch.
Next row (RS): Cut pink yarn, attach white yarn. Work in seed stitch for 2 inches.
Next row (RS): Cut white yarn, attach dark green yarn. Work in stockinette for 3 inches.
Bind off and cut yarn, leaving a length for sewing.

California Roll
With pink yarn, CO 10 sts. Work in stockinette for ½ inch.
Next row (RS): Cut pink yarn, attach pale green yarn. Continue in stockinette for ¾ inch more.
Next row (RS): Cut pale green yarn, attach dark green yarn. Work in stockinette for 2 inches.
Next row (RS): Cut dark green yarn, attach white yarn. Work in seed stitch for 3 inches. Bind off and cut yarn, leaving a length for sewing.

Tamago Nigiri (Egg Sushi)
With yellow yarn, CO 10 sts. Work in k1, p1 rib for 2 inches. Bind off. Set aside.
With white yarn, CO 8 sts. Work in seed stitch for 3 inches. Bind off. Set aside.
With dark green yarn, CO 4 sts. Work in stockinette for 3 inches. Bind off. Set aside.

Wasabi
With light green yarn, CO 3 sts.
Row 1 (RS): K1, k in front and back of next st TWICE, k1 (5 sts).
Row 2: Purl across
Row 3: Knit across
Rows 4 & 5: Rep rows 2 & 3.
Cut yarn and draw through all sts on needle. Pull yarn and gather stitches. Sew to CO edge, pulling firmly to draw piece into a ball shape. Secure end.

Pickled Ginger
With pink yarn, CO 20 sts VERY loosely.
Row 1 (RS): Knit in front, back, and front again of EACH stitch across (60 sts).
BO purlwise.
With fingers, shape into spiral.

Finishing
Tekka Maki and California Roll
Weave in ends. Starting at pink end (the sushi filling-“tuna” on the Tekka Maki and “crab” on the California Roll), roll strip (not too tightly). The Tekka Maki ends with “nori” (seaweed) and the California Roll ends with “rice.” Whipstitch end to outside of roll and secure.

Tamago Nigiri
Fold white strip into thirds crosswise. Whipstitch end to outside of piece and secure. This is the “rice” base. Lay the yellow “egg” strip on top and center it. Wrap the green “nori” strip around both, like a belt. Sew ends of strip together on underside and secure.

Arrange sushi attractively with wasabi and pickled ginger garnish. Enjoy!
